Particle Technology Ltd houses two of the largest commercial sand and dust testing facilities in Europe.
The requirements of all of the major specifications for dust penetration and erosion by sand can be met for both 'swirling' and 'driving' conditions and we have a full Ingress Protection (IP) facility, with the capability of incorporating both dust and water tests.
The chamber is the largest of its kind in the UK and allows bespoke testing to be performed for combined vibration sand and dust testing and very high speed sand and dust testing to simulate desert conditions without incurring the additional cost of shipping components outside the UK .
The facilities include the following:
12.5 x 4 x 6m blowing and swirling dust chamber with a 4m high access door
4 x 4 x 3m blowing and swirling dust chamber with a 2m high access door which can be extended to 2.5m
900mm square x 600mm high small swirling dust chamber
300mm diameter dust driving application duct with an exit velocity of up to 30m/s
90ºc maximum air temperature for driving sand and dust tests

Ingress Protection (IP Testing)
Particle Tehnology houses two dust chambers for IP testing to BS EN 60529 or ISO 20653. Our large dust test chamber is 4 x 4 x 3m and has a 2m access door which is extendable to 2.5m, our small dust test chamber is 0.9m x 0.9m x 0.6m. We always use certified and traceable test dusts and have UKAS accreditation for sand and dust testing, so you can be confident that our test results are accurate and repeatable. This allows us to give your products a full UKAS accredited IP rating (e.g. IP66) to meet the demands of your customers. Our facilities allow us to offer IP ratings on very large enclosures, such as those used on the railways and motorway networks.
