In this example, Particle Technology tested a flat sheet media sample from a locomotive application using their full-sized air filter test rig built in accordance with EN 779:2012 and ISO 16890:2016 standards.

The non-woven synthetic media was tested at an air flow rate of 1080 m3/hr based on a specified media velocity of 1.5 m/s. A G3 classification was achieved following the dust loading procedure in EN 779:2012, and values for the initial arrestance, average arrestance and test dust capacity were determined.

Measurements of initial efficiency with DEHS oil and initial pressure drop were also performed in order to fully characterise the media.
